Sierra Club Fall Color Photography Workshop,

Sunday December 5, 2015.

$175 per person (Aravaipa day-hiking permit included in price)

A fall color canyoneering experience not to be missed by the avid outdoors photographer.

This one day exclusive Fall Color Sierra Club Photography Workshop will take place in one of the most beautiful and seldom photographed canyons in south eastern Arizona.  Saturday morning we will carpool, Sierra Club style, from Tucson and Phoenix to the eastern end of Aravaipa Canyon and meet professional photographer Michael Madsen and experienced Southwestern U.S. hike leader Mitch Stevens.  After parking at the west end of Aravaipa Canyon we will hike up to 5 miles through Aravaipa Creek to the confluence of Virgus and Horsecamp canyons for exploring and photographing.

This workshop is a canyoneering experience.

Our journey involves off trail hiking. We will be canyoneering in Aravaipa Canyon Wilderness Area where we will hike in Aravaipa Creek and we will get wet up to our knees.  Water shoes, food and tripod are strongly recommended, a desire for adventure is required!  Please check our suggested pack list for ideas.

To register for this trip, contact Mitch Stevens 520-722-6860 or mitchstevens@qwestoffice.net

Michael Madsen is an architect and fine art photographer who lives and works in Gilbert, Arizona.  Over the past 20 years the Arizona landscape has provided much of the inspiration and subject matter for his work.  Michael’s original fine art prints are in public and private collections nationwide and he has been involved in photography workshops at the Desert Botanical Garden, and with private groups.  His work is currently on display at Tohono Chul Park in Tucson, and he is currently teaching beginner to intermediate photography at Boyce Thompson Arboretum an Arizona State Park near Superior, Arizona.

Workshop for adventurous wilderness photographers looking to add dramatic photos to their portfolio.

Grab your digital single lens reflex camera, water shoes and dry bag to keep your equipment dry as we shoot in the diverse lighting conditions of Aravaipa, Virgus and Horsecamp canyons.  Be prepared to mount your camera on a tripod and switch to manual and learn how to take charge of your camera.  Our goal is to provide personal instruction and teach techniques for improving your photography skills in manual mode.  This workshop is scheduled for the peak week of fall color so we will have the added bonus of expanding our fall foliage photography skills!
